Dr Kenneth George, the Senior Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health with responsinillity for Chronic Non Commumicable Diseases has suggested that the Government must play a greater role in tackling these diseases.

According to George, the Government should place  a tariffs on food items that are considered dangerous to one's health simillar to that on alcohol and cigarettes.

"The position of the Ministry of Health is that we don't think that Government should be involved in regulating people's food, however, we can use tax incentives to make healthy foods a better opion", George told Trakker News.

"So I am suggesting that things like saltfish and pigtails are taxed at a higher bracket because they are thought to be foods that are dangerous to one's health", Goerge said.
