Barbadians have taken the advice of the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) to stop wearing jewellery at public events.

According to Public Relations Officer of the RBPF Inspector David Welch, although there have been high profile cases of theft and armed robbery, there have been a reduction in petty snatch and grab.

Welch told Trakker News that his could be attributed to the new regulations governing the cash for gold trade as well as the public taking heed to the police advisories.

"A couple of months ago, we urged Barbadians not to wear jewellery in public until we had controlled the situation, we are hoping that Barbadians will continue to look at the events they are attending and choose wisely if they need to wear jewellery or not", Welch said.

"We have made progress with the cash for gold trade but we cannot take all of the credit as the public has begun to take their safety into their own hands", he added.
