Super “G” Miss World-Guyana 2016 contestants announced

The women were required to apply by submitting videos, attending live interviews and filling out an extensive online application.  The Miss World-Guyana Organisation received forty(40)  applications out of which the ten (10) finalists were selected using a thorough selection process by external judges.

As customary, delegates will be assigned to different Regions of Guyana for which they are expected to fully represent throughout the competition. The Organisation has said that that Miss World-Guyana 2016 should posses  “Super "G" qualities: Generous, Genial, Good, Gregarious, Golden, Guyanese, Global, Gifted, and Graceful.

Here are the names of the 2016 finalists in alphabetical order:

Ms. Ashmini Ramnauth (Ambassador, Region 5)

Ms. Damallie Jackman (Ambassador, Region 9)

Ms. Divya Yabindranauth (Ambassador, Region 1)

Ms. Marleena Ramdass (Ambassador, Region 6)

Ms. Marva Langevine ( Ambassador, Region 3)

Ms. Najuma Nelson (Ambassador, Region 2)

Ms. Nurriyah Gerrard (Ambassador, Region 8)

Ms. Tiffany Bob Semple (Ambassador, Region 10)

Ms. Treasure James (Ambassador, Region 7)

Miss World-Guyana 2016 finalists are expected to compete in Sports & Fitness, Talent, Interview, Top Model, multimedia competition, and Beauty with a Purpose starting from May 8, 2016.  This year, the Miss World-Guyana Titleholder will be crowned on May 27, exactly 50 years since the first Miss World Guyana was held in 1966.

Miss World-Guyana 2016 is a platform to enable personal and professional growth among our finalists in addition to the promotion of community service, beauty, fitness and talent. Participation in the pageant affords young women the opportunity to raise awareness on issues and causes affecting their communities as they serve as Finalists/Regional Ambassadors of our great nation.

The Miss World Guyana Coronation Show is the official country’s preliminary to the Miss World pageant, the longest and most prestigious pageant in the world with over 130 countries participating annually. 

The Miss World Guyana pageant commenced in May 1966 and crowned its first Title-holder, Umbilita Van Sluytman, who was also known as the Independence Queen and became Guyana’s first placement and semifinalist in the Miss World 1966 pageant.

The Miss World Pageant is the first international pageant that Guyana achieved repeated  successes in. As a result, Guyana is known for having one of the longest consecutive placements in the history of the Miss World pageant.

On May 26th 2013, Natasha Martindale was awarded the franchise from Miss World Chairwoman & CEO, Julia Morley.
