Sugar target missed

Bridgetown

Rain has delayed the havesting of the sugar crop, chairman of the Barbados Sugar Industries Limited, Attlee Brathwaite told Trakker News that the target of 30.000 tonnes set for this year will not be reached.

"Due to the heavey rains, harvesting could not take place at the rate that we anticpated. There was an entireweek  that the harvesters could not have gone into the field and as a result of that canes could not be delivered to the factories," said Dr Brathwaite.

"Hence, the processing will be delayed by at least two weeks. We anticipate that harvesting will now be competed by the middle of June', he added.
