Studies underway for pipeline to bring natural gas onshore

Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson

Georgetown: In anticipation of the emerging Oil and Gas industry, studies are underway for the laying of a pipeline to bring natural gas onshore.

Public Infrastructure Minister David Patterson had announced that his Ministry was engaged in discussions on the commercial use of natural gas.

He disclosed that two sites were shortlisted for the construction of a new power generation facility, which would involve the landing of a pipeline to bring the gas onshore.

On Thursday, Patterson revealed that studies are underway to determine the most appropriate location for the pipeline, as well as the other details surrounding the venture.

“It’s not just a pipeline for electricity. The Ministry of Business is putting together a plan wherever we land so that we could have an Industrial Park so that we could drive our industries. There is also a proposal for an LPG plant”, Patterson said.

The Minister explained that there are a number of determinants for the selection of a location for the pipeline, “not only land availability, the distance away from residents, Environmental challenges.”

He also divulged that considerations for the award of the project would not be limited to ExxonMobil.
