Security guard shot in neck

St. John’s Antigua: An alleged argument between two security officers attached to the same private firm ended with one being shot in the neck and the other in police custody.

The shooting victim, Corwyn Campbell of Special Security Services, was in stable condition at press time. Sources said his injuries are non-life threatening as the bullet reportedly did not hit any vital organs.

The guard who was shot left his post at a hotel in the city around 3:30 am yesterday and went to another hotel in the Dickenson Bay area.

While it is not clear why he went to the area, police sources said the victim reported that he was talking to his colleague on the scene shortly before he was shot.

He said he turned away and was walking with his back to his colleague when he heard an explosion and felt a burning sensation in his neck.

However, conflicting reports from other sources indicate the two had had an argument just before the incident.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is investigating the shooting. No charges had been made up to press time.

Meantime, efforts to reach the owner and manager of the security firm, Wilbur Purcel, were unsuccessful.
