Sanitation workers protest against attacks by the public

Bridgetown.

Over three hundred employees of the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA)  staged a three hour work stoppage  this morning at its Wildey, St Michael, headquarters  to protest against attacks on their workmates by members of the public.

The lastest attack occurred yesterday morning around 11 o'clock when Fitzgerald Moore, a lorry loader of Storey Gap, St Michael, received an injury to his head from a stone thrown by an unknow assailant. The incident took place at Storey Gap.

President of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW)  division of the SSA Elvis Gill, told Trakker News these attacks are occuring too frequently and it is time they stop.

He is calling for a meeting with the management of the SSA and NUPW to discuss the incident. Inspector David Welch of the Royal Barbados Police Force told the press the matter is being investigating.
