Prisoner who attempts suicide succumb

Michael-PersaudGeorgetown: A man who is charged with several counts of fraud, attempted suicide at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, Wednesday died Friday, police confirmed.

Forty-Three year old Michael Persaud appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan on Wednesday.

The Lot 15 Public Road, Herstelling East Bank Demerara resident ingested a poisonous substance, which was concealed in a bottle. Police stationed at the court acted quickly and rushed Persaud to the Georgetown Public Hospital. It is not yet clear how the accused gained access to the poisonous substance. Persaud was on bail but had it revoked by the Chief Magistrate, who then remanded him to prison.
