President remembers late Bakewell owner for contribution to business, charity

Georgetown : President Donald Ramotar joined members of the Muslim community and staff of the popular Guyanese bakery Bakewell in paying final respects to its proprietor, the late Naeem Nasir during a public viewing at the Merriman’s Mall opposite the newly constructed Queenstown Masjid.

Viewing of the body preceded prayers and supplication along Muslim rites following which the body was taken to Crane on the West Coast of Demerara for burial.

President Ramotar, who recalled some of his personal and working relations with Nasir described his death as a serious blow and used the occasion to extend condolences to the bereaved family.

“Naeem lived a short life, but high quality life … he relocated to Guyana and he built a very successful business and in the process he created a lot of employment for people. He was extremely generous, giving to the poor and charitable causes,” President Ramotar said in an invited comment.

Opposition Leader David Granger said Nasir death is a huge loss to the Business community.

Naeem Nasir, 52, died on October 9 at the Balwant Singh Hospital after illness.
