President extends Diwali greetings to the entire nation.

Georgetown : The President’s Diwali message reads

The First Lady and I extend joyous greetings to all on the occasion of Diwali 2012.

Diwali is a special and happy time for Hindus, marked by acts of inner and outer purification, kindness, amity, appreciation for others and care and respect for elders. This important festival is a source of hope, strength, enlightenment, revitalization and togetherness. It reminds us that ultimately evil does not have the final say; truth and righteousness always prevail. With confidence in this conviction, Diwali allows us to build moral fortitude in resisting hatred, spitefulness, vindictiveness in all aspects of our lives and in our society. The festival of lights, so vibrantly observed in Guyana, renews our conviction for a better future. Through its many timeless rituals fosters togetherness and unity amongst our people and communities.

It is our hope that the true meaning of Diwali- the sureness that good will always overcome evil- will challenge us to be open towards hope, thereby allowing for the building of greater trust and confidence which can only pave the way for continued success and development.

Happy Diwali to all Guyana!
