President disappointed with opposition to reject the firearms amendment bill

357_38special_swmodel66Georgetown : Rejecting a piece of legislation that sought to tackle crime by clamping down on illicit firearms possession and importation of firearms components is most irresponsible.

This was the response of President Donald Ramotar, when asked to comment on vote by the opposition against the Firearms Amendment legislation piloted by Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee. The minister had regained the right to speak after a gag order against him was deemed unconstitutional.

At Thursday’s sitting, the Speaker was prompted to remind the House that his ruling was final, after APNU advanced another challenge this time standing alone as their political allies, the Alliance for Change (AFC) conceded.

President Donald Ramotar called on the opposition to support a vital pieces of legislation that aim to enhance the capacity of the police force.
