Police now says brothers arrested were not for killing of mini bus driver

Georgetown : Police in a statement says acting on information ranks went to 4th Street, Agricola about 3:15pm where on arrival were confronted by two armed male suspects, one in possession of a shotgun with its barrel sawn off and the other with a handgun. They opened fire on the lawmen who adapted tactical positions and returned fire ;during the exchange, the suspect with the shotgun was injured. He was apprehended and the weapon retrieved, the other suspect managed to elude the ranks. The injured suspect was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is being prepared to undergo surgery. Meanwhile, and rather unfortunate, 63 year old housewife Parmaldai c/d Galo of 124 Ceasar Street, Agricola who was resting in a hammock next to where the shooting took place, was grazed by a stray bullet. She was taken to the East Bank Demerara Public Hospital (Diamond) where she was treated and sent away.However,her relatives took her to a private hospital where she is admitted. The Police Force wishes her a speedy recovery. The injured suspect is wanted for discharging of a loaded firearm at Grove East Bank Demerara, on July 5,2017. Investigation in progress.

The police confirmed that the men were arrested  for questioning in relation to a report of robbery under arms committed on the East Coast of Demerara. No information was provided of this robbery.
