Police, investigators clash over material related to violent raid

Port-of-Spain: The police service has admitted there was a heated, near physical confrontation between officials of the Police Complaints Authority and the Professional Standards Bureau over the siezure of documents related to an investigation of police action during a raid on the Laventille headquarters of the Transport and Industrial Workers Trade Union, during which a watchman was kicked by a police officer and the office ransacked.

The matter is now under investigation.

Meantime the National Trade Union Centre is calling for the suspension of the officers involved in the TIWU raid.

The umbrella organisation says the officers must be suspended pending an investigation.

NATUC has called an emergency meeting for two this afternoon to discuss the issue.
