Police interacts with Meten-Meer-Zorg residents

Georgetown: Top brass of the Guyana Police Force including Police Commissioner (acting) Leroy Brummel and Deputy Commissioner Law Enforcement Seelall Persaud were on an outreach yesterday at Meten-Meer-Zorg, Region Three.

The meeting to the community comes in the wake of the murder of Meten-Meer-Zorg grocer Zulficar Namdar, who on September 10 was shot and killed and his mother robbed of $1.3M worth of jewellery and $320,000 after a group of persons invaded his business place. Police Commissioner credited residents with providing much of the intelligence that led to the arrest of several persons. He impressed the need for their support in seeing the matter to a successful conclusion.

“I want it known that this is not the end of it. We have done our part, it is now at the judicial stage and we expect that you who have to give evidence attend court…we have to have these persons take responsibility…I am appealing to you, that when it is the Court date, whether it is Police Ranks, whether it is member of the public, if you have to give evidence, go to court and give your evidence,” he urged.

Brummel reinforced too, the significance of intelligence sharing from the residents to the success of the Force's effectiveness in its role to protect and serve.  “…for us to solve a lot of these crimes, we have to work together, we have to forget about this thing that if you give Police this information, they (are) going  to talk back …you will note that is intelligence,  that we got which lead to this success (arrests),” he said.

The Police Commissioner also called for residents to take a stance against crimes occurring in their community and homes. “We have to take back our communities, from these forces and the only way we can do this is we have to work together…you in the community, you have to work together. You have to be each other’s keeper. I must not be a licenced firearm holder in a community and next door to me there is a robbery, and I just peep and pull back,” he saidGE DIGITAL CAMERA
