Police Force charged 709 motorists for speeding in one week

Georgetown : The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has reported that there have been 30 road fatalities up to April 13, 2015, compared with 31 for the corresponding period last year.

While the statistics indicate a decrease in accidents overall during the past two weeks, the GPF is encouraging motorists to be extra vigilant on the roadways in the light of schools being reopened. The force is calling on motorists to adhere to the five Cs-Care, Caution, Common Sense, Courtesy and Consideration.
During the period April 5 to 11, 2015, a number of cases were made against motorists for breaching the traffic laws. These include 709 for speeding, 50 for driving under the influence, 29 for the breach of Condition of Road Service Licence, nine for careless driving, while 18 cases were filed for dangerous driving.

There were also 31 cases filed against motorists who failed to wear their seat belts, five cases were made out for those who failed to wear safety helmets, 31 for failing to adhere to sirens and 16 matters were for the prohibition of the use of hand held mobile phones.

Nine persons were charged for the soliciting of passengers (touting).
