Police cracked down on vendors selling porn

Obscene DVDGeorgetown: Six hundred pornographic DVDs were seized when Police descended on Stabroek Market conducting a raid recently.

Police disclosed that five of the seven persons arrested were males with the other two being females. They were reportedly caught selling the illegal material.

This crackdown came after it was highlighted in the media that the availability of pornographic DVDS to minors and even schoolchildren in uniforms in the streets of Georgetown was illegal.

The Police a few years ago had announced a public campaign against the sale of such material, but that was short-lived. Street vendors have been openly displaying their DVDs and some would even approach passersby with the lewd material.

Several parents and even social workers had made calls for the law enforcement agencies and other relevant organisations to get involved in the process of ridding the streets of the lewd material which are mainly aimed at minors.
