Police Complaints Authority probes polce beatings at steelpan semi-finals

Port-of-Spain: The Chairman of the Police Complaints Authority, Gillian Lucky says the Authority is in the process of reviewing tapes of alleged police abuse at the Panorama Semi-Finals on Sunday.

Lucky says that there were several reports of police using excessive force to keep patrons from getting from The Greens at the Queen's Park Savannah to the North Stand.

Lucky says the Authority will not shirk from its responsibility to investigate complaints from the public.

She confimred that patrons at the event are getting together medical reports in order to make formal complaints to the Authority.

On Monday Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs said he is standing by his officers, saying they were just doing their jobs.
