Police combing Berbice River for body of missing bar maid

Berbice. Police are supervising a search of the Berbice River for the body of a 30-year old bar woman who disappeared late last night.

The mother of one, Roxanne Brewster, of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam had left her place of work, the Rainbow Bar, also in New Amsterdam, in the company of four sailors. And was not seen again.

The four men including the captain of the MV Alexander, which is docked on the bank of the Berbice River, are all in custody assisting police with their investigations.

The men’s vessel reportedly transports cement from a plant in Berbice, and it was while they were awaiting its loading, they went to the Rainbow bar where the woman works.

The men told police that after “drinking” they had invited the woman to their vessel and it was while crossing the gang plank, she fell overboard into the river. They claimed that they spent about 15 minutes searching the river in the dark but did not locate Brewster’s body.

Earlier reports had fingered the men in some form of foul play with regards to the woman’s disappearance, since there  were rumours that the men were seen forcing the woman away from the bar.
