Police close in on $30M drug suspects with Jamaican law enforcement help

Port-of-Spain: Police say they hope to make an arrest soon in a multimillion dollar drug find at the port of Point Lisas.

At a daily police briefing today they announced that authorities from Jamaica are currently in the country assisting local law enforcement with their investigations, two weeks after police found $30 million of compressed marijuana in chicken parts in a container at the port.

Public Affairs Director of the Police Service, Sharon Lee Assang says working alongside their Jamaican counterparts have resulted in some serious inroads being made in the investigation.

Police say they continue to make big marijuana finds, this time with over $13 million worth of the illegal drug found on a planation in Mundo Nuevo.

Police also found  a 12-gauge shotgun and several  rounds of ammunition. Two persons have been charged.

The arrest tally since the August 21st start of the State of Emergency is now up to 3,601.

Of these 54 persons were arrested overnight.
