Police calls on Army to commence joint patrols amid unrest

GDFGeorgetown: After umpteen reports of unrest concentrated in Georgetown, the Guyana Police Force has called on the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) for support in a joint patrol operation.

According to the police force, “As a result of expressions of intimidation by members of the electorate, coupled with few incidents in Georgetown, the Commissioner of Police has called on the Chief of Staff for the support of Guyana Defence Force troops in the conduct of Joint GDF/GPF Patrols.”

The Chief of Staff consented to patrols being effective from Monday evening onwards until there is a semblance of peace.

The GDF said it assures all Guyana that the Officers and Ranks of the Joint Services remain professional and committed to its constitutional obligations to assist the civil authorities in the maintenance of law and order.
