Police breakup West Indies cricketers hotel room party

Colombo.

Three British women were arrested after police broke up a hotel room party involving West Indies cricketers, Chris Galye, Andre Russell, Fidel Edwards and Dwayne Smith, on Wednesday morning.

Police bodyguards protecting players and officials at the deluxe Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo and handed them over to a nearby police station.

According to a statement issued by the police, Ministerial guards assigned to protect the players arrested the three women and handed them to the Kollupitiga  Police Station.

According to a source, there was no breach of security on  the tightly guarded seven floor reserved for players and officials taking part in the on going Twenty 20 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka.

There was no wrong doing on the part of the players or the women and we were surprised at the police action the source added.

The women who were not charged were later released on bail.

Media Manager of the West Indies Philip Spooner said the matter had been dealt with.

"As far as the West Indies team is concern there was an incident that was handled by the police. Our focus is strictly cricket and our next assignment  is the semi- finals against Australia on Friday",  Spooner said.
