OWTU downgrades demands for TCL workers

Claxton Bay: The Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union says it has revised its initial 16 percent demand downward to 12 percent, as it seeks to bring resolution to the strike at Trinidad Cement Limited.

The shift in the union's position came at a meeting with Labour Minister Errol McLeod but the union says it remains concerned that the TCL management has stubbornly refused to move from its position of a seven percent wage offer.
Minister McLeod has indicated that he has been talking with both sides and is still awaiting word from the company on a suggestion put to them.

The union meantime says it continues to show its willingness to be flexible in order to facilitate a resolution of the dispute.

The union has again condemned any act of violence saying it has confidence in the discipline of its members who have maintained their strict adherence to the law and to the union’s code of conduct in the 21 days of the legal strike.

The union says TCL workers continue to remain strong and united in their resolve and continue their commitment to the full 90-day period of the strike.
