Opposition unhappy with efforts to end flooding

Port-of-Spain: The Opposition People's National Movement says it is unhappy with what it says has been a lack of progress in addressing the perennial flood problem.

In a statement issued today, Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley noted that one year ago an inter-ministerial committee was appointed to analyze the flooding problem and to come up with a comprehensive plan, putting systems in place to end the problem.

However the party says it is concerned that not much has changed and the flooding continues. It says only the implementation of effective policies and programmes could bring sustained relief to the citizens who reside in flood prone areas.

On monday the Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar met with officials from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management and agreed that a national action incidence team will be set up to coordinate quicker responses to reports of floods.
