Opposition non support of security bills sinister-PPP

PPPGeorgetown: The People’s Progressive Party says that it is alarmed at what is now the “blatant non-support by the Parliamentary alliance of the Alliance For Change (AFC) and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) for measures which seek to improve the protection of our citizens from crime.”

The party in a statement noted that crime does not have ethnic, social or political barriers as it affects all. Therefore, the position adopted by the opposition can only be seen as one of support for criminals.

“Just recently we observed an opposition political activist repeating calls to make Guyana, “UNGOVERNABLE”. Guyanese still have a vivid memory of the effects such calls have had on their lives in the not so recent past; where criminals were used to carry out a murderous rampage throughout our country,” the party stated.

Underscoring that the refusal by the opposition to condemn such statements and their refusal to support several modern anti-crime legislation has exposed a  nefarious agenda, the PPP further stated “we are firmly convinced that the opposition posturing, that they will not support any legislation brought by Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee is simply a convenient excuse to mask their true intentions.”
