OLPF redirected to benefit teachers

Georgetown : The review of the One Laptop Per Family Project (OLPF) by the Government has led to the project being redirected, since it is felt that the objectives were not being achieved under the current arrangement.

The Government has indicated its willingness to provide laptops to teachers in the education system, particularly those who are undergoing training at the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) and at the University of Guyana. Emphasis is also being placed on those who have recently completed training

Minster of the State Joseph Harmon had described the project as “a massive fraud”. This was after his he visited the storeroom of the (OLPF) office last month, and discovered 10,000 defective laptops.

A new shipment of 10,000 laptops is expected to arrive in Guyana soon. It is from this batch that the government will be distributing to the first group of targeted teachers.
