Owen Seymour Arthur will not be contesting the next general elections.

The former Prime Minister made the announcment at a meeting of  the Barbados Labour Party (BLP)  Christ Church West branch last weekend.

Arthur told the meeting that having given over 30 years of his life to the party it is almost time for him to leave  elective politics.

“The time comes in a person’s life when they have to go on. I have already told the leadership of the party, as I have already told the members of the branch in St Peter, that I would not be contesting another election as a candidate. I really will not,” Arthur  told party members at the Wotton Resource Centre in Christ Church.

Arthur said he would always be there for the party and would continue to serve it.
