New Primary School commissioned at Region One

100_4416Region One : Minister within the Ministry of Finance, Juan Edghill commissioned the newly constructed St. John’s Primary School at Three Brothers Village, Region One. This is the community’s third school with the other two located at Kachikamo and Lower Waini, the two other villages that comprise the Three Brothers community.

Minister Edghill in handing over the keys of the building to the teacher in charge said that the Government of Guyana is of the firm belief that residents of every community must have equal access to services and opportunities so that they are not precluded from the overall developmental thrust.

Minister Edghill urged residents to take care of the building and reminded of the importance of education in removing people out of poverty.

Region One Chairman, Paul Pierre explained that the student population has increased significantly and has outgrown the old building which served as the St. John’s Primary School. As such, based on representation by both parents and teachers, funds were made available under the Region’s 2012 budget for the construction of the new building.

This year, a new school will be built in the Matarkai sub-district, as well as new teachers’ quarters at Baramita, also in Region One.
