No elections delay says Prime Minister

Bridgetown.

There will be no delay of the general elections in Barbados which is due to be held in 2013, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart give this assurance over the weekend.

Stuart expressed indifference to the eagerness of persons who are repeatly inquiring about the date of the upcoming general elections.

"I do not know what this is about, there is no delay in the elections, we were elected in 2008 and five years after that take us to 2013 and that is my position", Stuart told journalists over the weekend.

He stated that the Government is entitled to see out five years before the next general elections are called and there is no need to rush him.

"I do not know that there is any delay in the ringing of the bell because if you are given five years to govern, you govern for five years. The Americans do not have this problem as they already known the date of their next elections in 2016, but with a Westminister charade such as this, calling elections is some kind of game where we try to catch people off guard", he added.
