Next 24hrs rainfall is expected at a range of 30mm

floodsGeorgetown: Residence especially those residing in low-lying areas are being advised to take all precautionary measures this evening as cloudy spells with possible thunderstorms are expected throughout Guyana.

Similar conditions are expected to continue tomorrow over Northern Guyana. However, occasional cloudy conditions are expected over Southern Guyana.

The Hydromet Office has advised that over the next 24hrs rainfall is expected at a range of 30mm in Regions 1 to 4.

While water has been receding well in most parts of the city, some areas in Georgetown, Upper and Lower Pomeroon, Charity Housing Scheme and North and South of Canals No. 2 are still under water.

However, the issues of the two main pumps in the city still remains non-functional. Had this been working, coupled with the main drainage structures along the City drainage would have been more rapid.

The sluices along the Demerara River in the City were not working at 100 percent and at least one was non-functional.

The National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA), has been working round the clock to ensure that all structures remain operable  to ensure that the water recedes at optimal levels.

While all pumps especially at emergency drainage structures are functioning at optimal levels, an emergency D&I team has been put in place to deal with any possible breach which can occur during the evening.
