New United States visa process

Bridgetown.

The United States Embassy has established a new system for Barbadians and nationals of the Eastern Caribbean who are applying for for a US visa.

Consul General at the US Embassy in Bridgetown, Mark Bysfield says the handling of appointments has been outsourced to a US company, which is expected to make the process faster and more efficient.

Mr. Bysfield explains that people applying will be directed to a new website and they will be asked to pay the visa fee before an appointment date is given.

He stated that Barbadians will be allowed to pay either by credit card, through a secured system, or they can go to a Scotiabank to make the payment. People outside of Barbados he says will only be able to pay via credit card.

Bysfield stressed that the new process will not affect the current cost of a visa.
