New Mental Health Act coming

Bridgetown.

A new Mental Health Act should be passed in Barbados by the middle of the year.

This was  disclosed by Minister of Health Donville Inniss during a address to a number of stakeholders in the mental health sector, who where attending a meeting at the Island Inn Hotel, Christ Church,  this morning to develop a new health plan to be incorporated into the new act.

The Minister reminded the stakeholders that in December last year, the Cabinet agreed to amend the 1985 act to incorporate new health developments. He specifically mention human rights provisions for the mentally challenged and the need for mental health care at the community level.
