New approach from BWA

Bridgetown.

The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) is  appealing to the public to pay thier bills in a timely manner. as it seeks to provide a better service to its customers.

According to corporate communications specialist with the BWA Joy Ann Haigh, the utility company is seeking to provide a better service  and  will be using a different approach to delinquent customers.

Over the past two years the BWA has faced a challenge in collecting million of dollars in outstanding payments from defaulters.

In March 2011, a former executive chairman of the BWA Arni Walters suggested that the utility company was owned $5 million in unpaid bills up to January 2010 by defaulters.

Walters said that the BWA had encounter difficulties in locating delinquent customers and was carrying out more than 20 disconnections daily.

According to Haigh, disconnections of customers would now be the last resort for the BWA.

"It cost us a lot of money to provide water to the Barbadian public, disconnections can be avoided be there are other avenues", Haigh told Trakker News.

"Over the next few months, the BWA will adopt a new method in the manner we interact with the public. We will have a more humane approach", Haigh said.

She stated that the BWA would be starting a aggressive education campaign in an effort to discourage delinquency and will improve its customer service.

"We want our customers to work with us and understand that just as they need us we desperately need them too. The BWA would like the public to cooperate with us to make sure that every person has clean water in their homes", says Haigh.73013_10150298045640542_1563676_n-1
