National Security Minister mourns police officer’s killing

San Fernando: National Security Minister John Sandy has condemned what he describes as the heinous killing of constable Narie Persad of the Task Force Unit of the Rio Claro Police Station.

The officer was killed while on a raid in the Cushe Forest, Rio Claro on Thursday.

Minister Sandy says the death of constable Persad again brings into focus the depth of gratitude which the country owes to its  uniformed men and women, as they put their lives at risk on a daily basis in the service of the country.

He assures that  the government remains committed to ensuring that all acts of lawlessness and criminality are met with firm resolve and severity.  Minister Sandy visited the home of constable Persad, in Rio Claro last evening, to offer condolences to family members. The minister says he is awaiting a full report into the killing.
