National Food Security campaign launched

Port-of-Spain: A national campaign on food security will soon be launched by the Ministry of Food Production.

The Ministry will officially launched the massive marketing campaign to encourage food production and local consumption. Addressing stakeholders at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann's,  Minister Bharath says greater priority must be given to agriculture.

The campaign he says will feature a number of advertisements promoting food security and by extension nutrition. He says his Ministry teamed up with a number of partners including KFC and the National School Dietary Services to offer more locally produced items on their menus.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is fully supporting the initiative and has challenged Minister Bharath to engage in research to find the nutrient values of local foods.

She believes the nation's children are the ideal target for this program. She says the country is off to a good start in reducing its food import bill.
