National Assembly to resume on December 17

ParliamentGeorgetown: Minister of State Joseph Harmon Tuesday disclosed that the National Assembly will resume sitting on December 17, 2015.

“We’re having a meeting of a sub-committee and I think that the 17thof December is the next date that Parliament will sit,” Harmon told the media at his weekly press briefing at the Ministry of Presidency.

Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo has revealed that the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) intends to challenge the proposed salary increases by the APNU+AFC government by tabling a motion in the National Assembly.

Jagdeo had made it clear that the PPP Parliamentarians will not accept the increase, which moved from $2M to $2.4M annually.

The Opposition Leader said “Indeed, a motion shall be laid in the National Assembly seeking to annul the unconscionable and astronomical salary increases that the APNUAFC Cabinet gave to themselves,” the statement noted.

Additionally, Jagdeo revealed that the PPP has also decided to table a motion calling on all MPs to make public their tax returns to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) over the last 10 years.
