Minister Westford calls for National Assembly to work collectively

Georgetown : The debate of Budget 2013 continues in the National Assembly today, Minister of Public Service

Dr. Jennifer Westford urged Parliamentarians to collectively resolve to create a brighter and enduring future for all Guyanese, a future of hope and prosperity not lack of, fear or hatred.

She stated that the members of the National Assembly must all be determined and committed to follow through with the difficult, but balanced choices to be made to pilot the affairs of the nation.

“We have to stop pulling our country into an abyss, we have to carry our own torches because no other nation will carry it for us,” Minister Westford stressed.

She also encouraged frank and open dialogue in good faith, on the challenges that face the nation. “It is my hope that this new dispensation will not continue to cloud our judgment as we deliberate over issues than can make or break our nation…What we need is more productive collaboration to the benefit of all our people. Should we fail, history will judge us all harshly.”

Minister Westford in commending Budget 2013 stated that it was imperative that Government, the private sector and development partners work in concert to continue to transform the economy to a globally competitive one, and one resilient to external shock.
