Minister Warner promises to end flooding soon

Port-of-Spain: Works and Transport Minister Jack Warner is promising that in two weeks time the flooding problems affecting parts of the capital city will be eliminated.

Several parts of the city and other towns in northern Trinidad were flooded after persistent rainfall on Saturday.

Among the areas badly affected were Apriapita Avenue which particularly affects the Princess Elizabeth Home for handicapped children and the Goodwill Industries.

The minister along with Port-of-Spain Mayor Louis Lee Sing and other officials from the Solid Waste Management Company, the Ministry of Public Utilities and other agencies toured areas which were affected by Saturday's floods. Minister Warner says that because some areas are below sea level he intends to employ several measures inlcuding purchasing two pumps to eliminated the problem.

The business community is being asked to assist the Princess Elizabeth Home which had several items damaged or destroyed by the floods. The Downtown Owners and Merchants Association has made the appeal on behalf of the home.

Among the items destroyed are now needed are a split air condition unit, office chairs, swiveling desk chairs, an office desk, children's chairs and computers with children learning software.
