Minister Sukhai awarded Medal of Merit – by Republic of Congo

Georgetown: Minister of Amerindian Affairs has been conferred with the Medal of Merit by the Republic of Congo, the highest order within its category.

The Minister also was confirmed as the Commander of the Indigenous people within Central Africa for the role played in the International Forum on Indigenous Peoples of Central Africa (FIPAC 3) and in Guyana.

The Amerindian Affairs Minister said that she was commended for her role and work in indigenous development in Guyana and for the contribution which she made to FIPAC.

“I was awarded the highest honour for those achievements, and thought it was significant to Guyana’s success story of where women have arrived,” she said.

Minister Sukhai noted that there is still a lot of work to be done and challenges to face but, “I believe we have overcome the hardship of women working in realms which were never before explored by women,” she added.
