Medical fraternity boosted with 90 clinical and technician professionals

Georgetown : The Health Ministry’s Division of Health Sciences Education inducted 90 clinical and technician professionals into the medical fraternity comprising 20 pharmacy assistants, 28 medical laboratory technicians, 20 environmental health officers, 12 public health nurses and 10 dentex (diploma).

Minister of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran addressing the professionals said while the last batch of public health nurses was trained 12 years ago, it is hoped that another batch will commence training soon.

In this regard, Minister Ramsaran stated that these nurses will also be the cutting edge in the fight against Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) particularly diabetes, cardiovascular, cancer and hypertension. These illnesses are threatened by abuse of alcohol, tobacco consumption, inactivity and poor diet..

Director, Health Sciences Education, Wilton Benn in congratulating the students stated that their journey has now begun, and starts with service to the people, challenges and expectations. In this regard, he urged them to gain knowledge daily since this facilitates growth.

Benn encouraged the new professionals in their respective fields to develop a culture of continuous learning, and to demonstrate a caring behaviour since the same is expected from health care professionals.
