Marriott Hotel hosts reception for international journalists

MarriotGuyana’s Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh formally hosted 12 international reporters and journalists from Antigua, St. Lucia, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica to the Marriott Hotel with a reception Wednesday morning.

 The minister, in brief remarks, thanked the Marriott’s senior management for their “strong show of confidence and optimism in Guyana” as Guyana’s first 5-star hotel prepares to formally open its doors tomorrow. He described the opening of the Marriott Georgetown Guyana Hotel as a “grand and historic occasion for the city and the people of Guyana”. He said that, on government’s behalf, he was proud of what has been achieved and emphasised that there was no doubt that the establishment will not only do well, but also “raise the standards of the tourism industry”.

The finance minister gave kudos, to the recently appointed Country Manager of Republic Bank, Richard Sammy who led the  team in assisting with the bank’s financing and Chairman of Atlantic Hotels Incorporated Winston Brassington for successfully undertaking a project which he deemed a “labour of love”.
