Manning in Washington to continue treatment for stroke

San Fernando: Former Prime Minister Patrick Manning has left for the Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington DC to continue treatement as he recuperates from a mild stroke that he suffered on January 23rd.

Manning left this morning accompanied by his wife Hazel Manning.

Manning's office says in a statement that his family wishes to thank Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar, Health Minister Dr Fuad Khan, Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley and the staff of the San Fernando General Hospital for their efforts.

Manning's family had requested that the government assist in his transfer to Washington.

Meanwhile former prime minister Basdeo Panday says the government cannot claim credit for footing the $585,000 bill because it is already law.
