Man injured in family feud

Mahindra Nauth Basdeo and his wife Nadira Nunez are calling for justice after they were beaten by family members over a controversial sawmill. Basdeo, who suffered a broken leg and other injuries, was admitted as a patient to the New Amsterdam Hospital on Friday.

He was reportedly assaulted at Art Sawmilling Enterprise, formally Basdeo Sawmill, at Lot 3-4 Matthew Allen Road, Strand, New Amsterdam.
According to Basdeo, he was hit by several persons carrying sticks as he went to investigate a loud sound that came from a location near his sister.
His wife, Nadira Nunez was also attacked by her sister and in-laws, he said

The Basdeos have reportedly been in court since 2006 when their father died.
According to Mahindra in May of this year, a judge granted an order to have the 2.5 acres sawmill divided evenly among his seven surviving children.
Nunez said her sister and in-laws attacked her three brothers as well.

When police arrived, they were taken to the station and charged. Her husband, a U.S. national and former member of the U.S. Navy, was locked up, but has since been released.
No charges were laid against her sister and her sister’s husband, or any of those in their group, the woman said.
She is calling on the police in New Amsterdam to ensure justice prevails.
“If there was a fight, everyone should be charged and then let the court decide who is right and who is wrong.”
