Judge taking legal action against defendant

Bridgetown.

In what could be a first for the judicial system in Barbados, High Court Judge Elenth Kentish has removed herself a case in the Supreme Court because she is taking legal action against the defendant.

Justice Kentish yesterday informed the Number 12 Supreme Court that she has recused herself from the case , the Coach House versus Joseph Jordan and had refferred it to Chief Justice Marson Gibson for a new date because she will be commencing litigation against Jordan.

Her decision is based on a letter Jordan wrote to the Chief Justice and copied to several  local and international media organizations.  This letter contained what Kentish deemed to be scurrilous statements  which referred directly to  her.
