India to assist Guyana’s agriculture sector

Georgetown : Indian High Commissioner (HC) to Guyana, Mr. Venkatachalam Mahalingam, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister (PM) Moses Nagamootoo. PM Nagamootoo took the opportunity to invite Minister of Agriculture Noel Holder to be present during the meeting with the High Commissioner.

The PM explained that the meeting was a “very fruitful exchange of views”, and focused on some of the existing arrangements between the Indian and Guyanese Governments.

He also stated that talks focused on “a variety and wide field of assistance that could be rendered, technically and otherwise, to the sugar industry in Guyana.”

Mr Mahalingam noted that during the friendly meeting, most of the discussions centered on what assistance India could offer Guyana in terms of agriculture, specifically in the rice and sugar industries.

He said he was looking forward to working together with the PM and the Minister of Agriculture in “furthering relations between India and Guyana, particularly in the field of agriculture.”
