Inaugural call to the territory by Carnival Valor

British Virgin Islands: Carnival Valor cruise ship yesterday made its inaugural call to the Territory, according to a BVInews.com report.

Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Mark Vanterpool, who is responsible for ports, presented a plaque to Captain Giuseppe Giusa, of Carnival Valor, in honour of the occasion on behalf of the Premier and Minister for Tourism, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE.

The BVInews.com report said that the Minister welcomed the Captain and his crew and invited them to make more calls to the Territory. Captain Giusa said he looks forward to returning to the Virgin Islands.  Also present were Government officials from the Premier´s Office, BVI Tourist Board, BVI Ports Authority, and the cruise line´s local agent Romney and Associates Consultants Ltd.

Carnival Valor is expected to return next month. The 110,000 ton ship, based at the Port of Miami, has the capacity to sail 2,974 passengers.
