Guyana’s Tax Review Committee hits major snag

The much vaunted Tax Review Committee which had been launched by Head of State Donald Ramotar, days after taking Office, has never actually gotten down to reviewing any taxes and the Committee has run into its first major hurdle.

Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon made the announcement this morning and told reporters that the work of the Committee is currently on hold, until a replacement for one of its members is found.

He reported that Dr Cyril Solomon, who was a serving member of the Committee, has since fallen ill and is currently overseas for medical treatment.

Dr Luncheon says that the President is currently seeking a replacement for Dr Solomon on that Committee.

He said that up until the untimely illness of Dr Solomon, the Committee had been working on its “Terms of Reference” and never actually got down to reviewing any of the nation’s tax systems.

The other members of the Committee are Clifford Reis, the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Banks DIH Limited and Ronald Ali.
