GTA gets financial support at Expo in New York & Canada

DSC_00102Georgetown : The Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the local private sector is hosting an International Tourism Expo in New York (NY), and in Canada in conjunction with the Guyana High Commission.

The companies on board for this project include Fly Jamaica, New Guyana Pharmaceutical Corporation Inc., (GPC), Banks DIH Ltd, Edward Beharry, Sterling Products, CGX, and Mohamed’s Enterprises.

GPC’s Marketing Manager Trevor Bassoo handed over a cheque valued US $5,000, while Director of Fly Jamaica, Ms. Patricia Reece presented a US $2,500 cheque to the director of the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) Indranauth Haralsingh towards the event.

The aim of this expo is to showcase Guyana’s tourism potential, and to give local companies exposure to the wider market, which is readily available for Guyana’s products and its services. It is also an effort to create opportunities for these companies, to promote their products, at a common location in developing business relationships with other entities.  This will further expand their business capacity. This project also allows local tour operators to visit these two important venues to collaborate with travel agents, and to promote Guyana and its tourism products so that the country can benefit from a Diaspora market.

Minister of Tourism (ag) Irfaan Ali who witnessed the presentation ceremony, highlighted that there were constant meetings with various stakeholders in the tourism sector, including tour operators, travel agents and leaders within the Diaspora, and a constant suggestion from the stakeholders during these meeting was that the Ministry should create an initiative to promote the local private sector internationally.

The International Trade and Tourism Expo will be held in Toronto, Canada on June 23 and 24 and in New York from June 28 to 30 under the ‘Rediscover Home’ programme that was launched last year. The main purpose of this programme is to target the potential of the tourism market in the country’s Diaspora, both in New York and Canada.
