GPHC refutes Demerara Waves report

Georgetown:  Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) this afternoon claims that an on-line news report published yesterday under the caption, “GPHC emergency docs. nurses protest conditions.”

GPHC said there was no cessation of medical services at the Accident and Emergency Unit on Tuesday that Demerara Waves published on their website.

What in fact happened, GPHC’s reconfiguration activities required the removal of a section of the concrete wall at the Accident and Emergency Unit’s waiting area. Following concerns raised about the flow of dust at the area, Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Michael Khan, immediately visited the area and ordered that the reconfiguration works cease. Mr. Khan also spoke with the doctors and nurses concerning the situation. It should be noted that at no time did the administration of medical care ceased at the Accident and Emergency Unit since the doctors and nurses had already arranged to continue their functions at another area.

The CEO this morning met with the doctors and nurses at the Accident and Emergency Unit to decide on the way forward to complete the reconfiguration activities. It was agreed that the doctors, nurses and the implementation team will continue to cooperate to ensure that the reconfiguration activities are completed at the minimal time possible.
