Gov’t to change policy on health aid – Former President Jagdeo

Bharat Jagdeo NewGeorgetown: Former President Bharrat Jagdeo Tuesday said that President Donald Ramotar has indicated that he has plans to change the policy under which members of the government and other public officials access health assistance from the Consolidated Fund.

Jagdeo was speaking a press conference he called to clarified points he made at Babu John on Sunday at a PPP event. He was asked about the millions of dollars spent on health assistance to ministers and other officials.

“I spoke to President Ramotar and he said he has plans to change this policy” Jagdeo said at Freedom House. He said the president said he will move to a policy of insurance so that the charge against the consolidated fund is limited. He was also questioned on the over four million spent to fix government members’ teeth and Jagdeo said he agrees that some of the assistance should not be given.

Among those topping the list is the late Navin Chandarpal on whom GUY$116 million was spent for cancer treatment,  GUY$4.9 million for Attorney General Anil Nandlall’s medical intervention and GUY$2 million and GUY$1.3 million on dental treatment for Amerindian Affairs Minister Pauline Sukhai and Public Service Minister, Jennifer Webster respectively.
