Govt fails to pay Tobago golf winners

Tobago: The Tobago House of Assembly says it has had to fork out an additional $528,000 to pay prize money when two State agencies failed to honour their commitment in the first Caribbean International Pro Am Golf tournament hosted by the Tobago Junior Golf Academy.

A statement from the THA says A total of $828,000 in prize money was pledged to the professional golfers in the tournament of which the Assembly committed itself to pay $300,000 and the Sports Company of T&T and the Tourism Development Company the balance of $528,000.

However, THA Chief Secretary Orville London says that because the two State agencies failed to keep their commitment the golfers have not yet received their prize money.
